April on the Space Coast: Every Event Worth Your Weekend — and Where to Eat After
April on the Space Coast is when winter tourists leave and the real season begins. The humidity hasn't peaked yet, the water temperature is finally reasonable, and the calendar fills up with the kind of weekends that remind you why you live here — or why you should.
This April is stacked. Three marquee events in three weekends, each one pulling a different crowd and all of them within fifteen minutes of Merritt Island. Here's your field guide.
Cocoa Beach Air Show — April 11–12
The headline act. The Blue Angels return to Cocoa Beach for the first time since 2021, headlining the annual Air Show as part of America's 250th birthday celebration. Hundreds of thousands of people will line the beach from Lori Wilson Park to the Cocoa Beach Pier, watching F/A-18 Super Hornets turn the Atlantic sky into a performance space.
General beach viewing is free. Get there early — real early — if you want a spot near the center line of the show box. A1A will be a parking lot by 9 AM.
We wrote a full guide to the Air Show — where to watch, what to eat after, and why you should skip the vendor hot dogs. Read it here.
Space Coast Strawberry Festival — April 11–12
Running the same weekend as the Air Show (because the Space Coast apparently doesn't believe in spacing things out), the Strawberry Festival is the family-friendly counterpart. Live music, craft vendors, carnival rides, and — obviously — strawberries in every form the human imagination has devised. Chocolate-dipped. Shortcaked. Lemonaded. Daiquiried.
The festival draws a younger family crowd and the atmosphere is looser than the Air Show's military precision. It's the kind of day where the kids run around on a sugar high while the adults pretend they didn't just eat their fourth strawberry funnel cake.
Pro tip: You can hit both events in one day. Air Show in the morning, Strawberry Festival in the afternoon — or vice versa. Either way, you're going to need real food at some point. A funnel cake is not dinner. We'll get to that.
Merritt Island Marine Flea Market & Boat Show — April 18
The following weekend, Merritt Square Mall hosts the Marine Flea Market & Boat Show. This is pure Space Coast: fishing gear, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, marine electronics, boat accessories, and the kind of deals that make boaters do math in the parking lot before they go home and explain the purchase to their spouse.
The boat show draws a dedicated crowd — anglers, weekend cruisers, and the "I'm just looking" people who always leave with something. It runs all day Saturday and it's right in the heart of Merritt Island.
The Common Thread: Everyone Gets Hungry
Here's the thing about event weekends on the Space Coast. You spend the morning doing the thing. You spend the afternoon doing more of the thing. By 5 PM, the kids are crashing, the cooler is empty, and someone in the car says the words that start every restaurant argument: "Where do you want to eat?"
The chains will be slammed. The beach spots will have hour-long waits. The fast food line will be wrapped around the building.
Wise Guys Pizzeria is ten minutes from Cocoa Beach, five minutes from Merritt Square Mall, and zero minutes from being exactly what you need after a long day: real food, real fast, made by someone who's been doing it for thirty-five years.
What the Locals Order
- After the Air Show: A couple of large pies for the whole crew. The Deluxe (everything on it) and the White Pizza (no sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, provolone, garlic). Mike's two best.
- After the Strawberry Festival: The kids want Chicken Tenders and French Fries. You want the Chicken Philly Sub in Cajun. Everybody wins.
- After the Boat Show: Wings. Jumbo wings in 11 flavors, starting at $11.95. You just spent three hours looking at boats you can't afford. Treat yourself to something you can.
- Any night: The Wise Guy Combo sub — ham, cappy, genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone. The signature hero. Pair it with garlic knots and a Manhattan Special Coffee Soda and you've got a meal that costs less than parking at a beach event.

See you at the counter.
